Our transfer: We offer you transfers from the airport to our Playa del Carmen Hotel in air-conditionedmini buses or cars. These are also included in many round trips. By taxi: Cabs are very expensive and you should usually settle on the price before driving. Ask our reception for prices. At the airport there are normally fixed prices, which can be seldom negotiated. If you want to save some money and drive safely, you should usually take the bus or book our transfer.
By bus: The public transport system in Playa del Carmen is excellent. It is also the cheapest way to get around. Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Mérida, Chetumal and Campeche all have bus stations known as the "Central Camionera" or "Central de Autobuses". You have to go to a bus station to purchase your ticket. You cannot do this over the telephone. In smaller places you may find separate first- and second-class terminals, or individual ones for each company. The older bus station in Playa del Carmen is located at 5th and Juarez; the new station is at 20th Avenue between Calle 12 and Calle 14.
Long-distance buses are called "camiones" and there are lots of operators. ADO, Omnibuses de Mexico and Primera Plus are some of the major first class bus lines. They are equipped with air conditioning, toilets and video. These services operate between Cancún – Playa del Carmen – Chetumal – Campeche – Mérida – Cancún. It costs around8.80 USD from Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen and 3.30 USD from the center of Cancún to Playa del Carmen. It is advisable to book seats 1 or 2 days in advance.
There is also the mini-bus line "colectivo", which runs up and down the Mayan Riviera from Cancún to Tulúm. This is by far the cheapest way to get around the Riviera and you share the bus with other people. It costs around 8.30 USD per person to go from Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen and 2.90 USD from the center of Cancún to Playa del Carmen.
There are various airlines that offer flights toCancún or Mexico City, such as Aeroméxico, American Airlines, United, Continental, Air France, British Airways, Condor, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa. Flights go to Cancún International Airport, which is located around an hour from Playa del Carmen by car.
There are several smaller, regional airports. These are located in Mérida, Campeche, Chetumal and Cozumel. Playa del Carmen also has a little airport that mostly offers trips to Belize, Guatemala, Chichén Itzá. If you want to go by plane inside of Mexico there are several airlines that offer national flights: Aeroméxico, Interjet, Magnimex, Vivaaerobus and Volaris.

You can enter Playa del Carmen with your car or with a rental.
If you travel to Mexico with your own vehicle, you will need an appropriate immigration form, a valid driver’s license, a certificate of title or vehicle registration and an international credit card. Furthermore, you have to complete a temporary import permit and a vehicle return promise.
If you hire a car, you must have Mexican auto insurance, be at least 25 years old and a valid driver’s license. A national license is sufficient, but it is even better to own an international driver’s license. Playa del Carmen is the easiest and cheapest region to rent a car.After your arrive at Cancun’s international airport you should take the bus or taxi to Playa del Carmen and rent your car there. Almost everybody at these agencies speak English. The agencies have good maps as well. Every resort will have at least one car rental agency in the lobby. It is even cheaper, if you rent you car in advance. You can also rent a car via the Playa del Carmen Hotel, which would be the easiest way.
